In 2005, it was merged with Wujek Coal Mine. Today it operates as part of the Staszic-Wujek Coal Mine. Since its launch in 1964, it has not changed its name. The highest employment in history was achieved in 1988 when 8500 people worked there. In 1978, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz became an honorary miner of Staszic Coal Mine.
