Dębieńsko Coal Mine

Silesia

It was founded in 1843 by the merchant Wilhelm Schneider. During the interwar period, it was one of the most mechanized mines in the Rybnik area: it had 13 electric locomotives, four fireless locomotives and two running on gas. Since 1934 it had the only diesel locomotive in Poland. The work in the mine was completed in 2006. In 2016, it was purchased by the Australian Prairie Mining Limited, which in 2019 sued the Polish government for obstructing the construction of mines.

29.37 kilometers – at the time of writing this report, separating Kramatorsk, the temporary capital of the Donetsk Oblast, from the front line. One third of the 220,000 inhabitants remained. In the deserted city you can see mostly soldiers. They head to the front or return from it to rest for a while. The fate of Kramatorsk and eastern Ukraine depends on the outcome of fierce fighting.
