Szczygłowice Coal Mine

Silesia

A relatively young mine, as its construction began in 1957, and coal mining there began in 1961. Today, the mine operates under Knurów and partly under the Czerwionka-Leszczyny town. and Pilchowice commune. In 2008, there was a structural failure there – the tower of the ventilation shaft and two buildings collapsed. No one got hurt. Szczygłowice Coal Mine and Knurów Coal Mine were connected in 2009, and since 2014 the combined mine has been operating within the structures of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

We present the stories of Europe’s border graves in three collections of 360 degree videos, taking us to border cemeteries in Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, and Poland.
