Rozbark Coal Mine

Silesia

It was established in 1870 and worked under the names Rossberg Coal Mine and Heinitz Coal Mine. The original owner of the fields was Hugo I Henckel von Donnersmarck, and in 1890 the mine was taken over by the Giesche company. After the war, during 1945–1949, a labour camp was organised in the mine. Mining was completed in 2004, and in 2007 the Rozbark Coal Mine's original complex of buildings was enlisted into the Register of Immovable Properties of the Silesian Voivodeship. In 2014, the ROZBARK Dance and Movement Theater were opened there.

An estimated 1,400 girls are not born every year in Armenia due to a rooted preference for male children. The son-bias combined with a lower birth rate, has led to an alarming number of sex-selective abortions. Community activities, various laws and television shows are addressing the issue - with positive results. But is the actual problem being tackled?
