The Kraken regiment was formed on the day the invasion began in February, initially from veterans of the Azov regiment.

During the retreat of Russian units from Kharkiv to the north, Kraken liberated the village of Ruska Lozova.

After the liberation, they secured the town and areas to the north as security for the first line of the Ukrainian army fighting in Pytomnyk.
