Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN)

The party originated from the guerrilla revolutionary movement formed in 1961, which took power in Nicaragua after the revolution in 1979. The movement governed Nicaragua until 1990, and then turned into an opposition movement. It refers to Augusto Sandino, the leader of the resistance movement fighting against the United States in the 1920s and 1930s.

Approximately 30 civilians died in street riots in Nicaragua after President Daniel Ortega announced plans for the reform of social security system. The army is monitoring a tense situation in many cities and waiting for people to calm down. President Ortega said USA is responsible for the bloodshed.
