Nicolás Maduro

Venezuela’s Minister for Foreign Affairs between 2006-2013 and the vice-president of the country between October 13th 2012 and March 9th 2013. In April 2013 he was sworn in as the president of Venezuela. He was a party colleague of Hugo Chavez, who saw him as his successor. After Chavez’s death, Maduro won 50.7 percent of the votes in the presidential elections. As Venezuela’s head of state, he introduced more national holidays, increased the minimum wage but his presidency has also been marked by the biggest economic crisis in Venezuela since the Socialist took over the power in 1999. Currently, Maduro is preparing for the next presidential elections which are to take place in 2018.
