Appeared in Crimea at the end of February. They were well armed and equipped, wearing Russian uniforms, but without any identification marks. They took over key places on the Crimean Peninsula, including headquarters of Ukrainian military units. President Vladimir Putin initially denied the participation of Russian soldiers in activities in Crimea. It was only after some time that he officially admitted that Russian troops had carried out a military operation during the annexation of Crimea.
