‘Great Political Reform’ campaign
On October 17, ‘the Great Political Reform’ campaign was initiated near the Verkhovna Rada in Kiev. Nine political forces, including Saakashvili’s Movement of New Forces, the Svoboda party, the Self-Reliance and six people’s organizations organized the event. Three requirements addressed to the authorities were proclaimed: the change of the electoral system into a majority system with open electoral lists, liquidation of the parliamentary privilege and the impanelling of the Anti-Corruption Court. Approximately 4,000 people took part in the meeting.
Nonethelles, most of the organizers withdrew officially from the continuation of the action after the clashes with the police. Supporters of Mikheil Saakashvili stayed in the so-called tent town near in Kiev.
