‘El Golfo’ cartel
It was formed in the Tamaulipas state. It controls a large part of the trafficking routes and it is active in several Latin American countries. In the 1990s ‘El Golfo’ cartel created paramilitary groups ‘Los Zetas’ which became an independent cartel in 2010 and began fighting against ‘El Golfo’.
