CHP is running with Muharrem İnce

Muharrem İnce has run twice fort he leadership of his party but lost, the last time as recently as January 2018. İnce, who spend his childhood in a village close to the northwestern city of Yalova, is a professor of physics but comes from very modest roots. His father was a truck driver and many members of his family still live in the village. CHP has always been considered as representing the country’s “elite” but, in a twist, Erdoğan called İnce “a poor-fellow”. “We need a president who doesn’t get rich and always remains a poor fellow,” İnce responded. Muharrem İnce speaks during a rally in Black Sea city of Rize, Erdoğan's bastion and hometwon, with a banner reading "Vakit Tamam" ("The Time is Up") hung on a pedestrian bridge in the background.
