Andriy Parubiy

Ukrainian politician, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine since April 14, 2016. He was born in the Lviv Oblast. As a student, he was involved in opposition activity in 1988. A year later, he was arrested for organizing an illegal meeting. In 1991, together with Oleh Tyahnybok, he founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine. It was renamed the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda" in 2004. In 2004 he was active during the Orange Revolution. In the years 2007-2012 he was a deputy of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc. During Maidan protests in Kiev, at the turn of 2013 and 2014, he became the Commandant of Maidan Self-Defense.
