Andrii Deshchytsia
Ukrainian ambassador in Poland since September 2014. He started his diplomatic career in 1996 as a first secretary of Ukrainian embassy in Poland. He was the Ukrainian foreign affairs minister from February to June 2014.
He is known for performing a popular song at the time – 'Putin-chujło' in front of the Russian embassy in Kyiv on 14 June 2014. Back then Deshchytsia arrived at the Russain embassy where a demonstration was taking place after Russian militants shot down Il-76 strategic airlifter over the airport in Luhansk. 40 Ukrainian troops and 9 crew members died in the crash. The minister appealed for order among the people gathered in front of the embassy and at the same time reassured the protesters that he supports them. Later, minister explained that he tried to ease the crowd this way and prevent the attack on the embassy.
Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev called Deshchytsia's behaviour inadequate while Geoffrey Pratt, US ambassador in Kyiv at the time expressed his support for Deshchytsia's actions.
