8.1 magnitude earthquake in 1985
Although the epicentre was over 350 km southwest of the city of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean, the strength of the hit, the city's location on an unstable land and its high density-housing made the capital suffered the most. Many buildings have collapsed or have been seriously damaged. As a result of the disaster, over 10,000 people were killed and about 250,000 people lost their houses.
