Luis von Ahn

A Guatemalan entrepreneur and a Consulting Professor in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University. He is known as one of the pioneers of crowdsourcing and one the founder of the company reCAPTCHA. (The IT solution reCAPTCHA enables Internet users to help to recognise fragments of the scanned text that the OCR software could not handle). The reCAPTCHA tool was sold to Google in 2009 and helped to digitalise, among others, The New York Times archives and books from Google Books. Luis von Ahn is a co-founder and CEO of the popular language platform - Duolingo. As a professor and inventor, he won international fame and numerous awards. He was among others on the list of the 20 Best Brains under 40 of Discover Magazine, a website Fast Company placed him on the list of the 100 most creative people in business, and Siglo Veintiuno, the largest newspaper in Guatemala, chose him as the Man of the Year 2009.
