the Cuban Revolution

The Cuban revolution against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista lasted between 1956 and 1959. After the revolution, the government led by Fidel Castro was recognized by the United States, France and the UK. In 1960 the new authorities nationalized the economy and in 1961 Castro proclaimed the socialist character of the Cuban revolution.
