RTÜK

The Radio and Television Supreme Council is Turkey’s state agency for monitoring, regulating and – a competence it often exercises – sanctioning radio and television broadcasts. With a recent and much controversial new law, RTÜK has even extended its powers to web-based broadcasts, which raised concerns about new restrictions imposed on platforms and websites that have become a limited space for dissent. Founded in 1994, RTÜK is composed of nine members elected by the Parliament.
