Luis Carlos Galan

A lawyer, economist, journalist and politician. He took part in presidential elections twice (in 1981 and 1989). He openly spoke out against the drug cartels. He was killed by the Medellín Cartel before the elections on 18 August 1989.

Jhon Jairo Velásquez Vásquez ‘Popeye’, the head of a group of Medellín cartel killers, was arrested by the Colombian police on charges of plotting and extortion. The United States admitted that it has helped with running the investigation on him.
