Indian tribes inhabiting the western and central parts of Honduras and El Salvador. The group belongs to the peoples who speak Chibchan languages. Lenca people deal mainly with farming. There are about 70,000 of Lenca people living in Honduras.

Upon the family request, the Supreme Court of adjourned the trial for the murder of Berta Cáceres, an advocate of Indian rights, for an indefinite period. The close relatives of the woman murdered in 2016 believe that the judges are biased and the state authorities have tried to cover up the truth.
