Guzman’s escapes from prison

First escape - Joaquin Guzman was caught in 1993 on the border of Mexico and Guatemala and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. In January 2001, the National Supreme Court agreed for his extradition to the United States. The day after the sentencing ‘El Chapo’ ran away from prison, hidden in a trolley with dirty clothes carried to the laundry. The investigation determined that 71 people were involved in the escape, including 15 prison officers. Second escape - on February 22, 2014, ‘El Chapo’ was captured near the town of Mazatlan and put in a federal prison. On July 11, 2015, he escaped through a tunnel drilled by his accomplices.
