Evo Morales

He is of Indian origin and comes from the Aymara people, like 30% of the country's population. He had six siblings, but four of them died of hunger. His parents were farmers. He became a social activist when he was a boy. In 1997 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies gaining the largest number of votes. He won the presidential election at the end of 2005. He was re-elected twice: in 2009 and 2014. The Time magazine placed Morales in the ranking of 100 most influential people in the world. During his presidency, the country began to fight against poverty. The government took control of oil and gas deposits, which tripled the proceeds from the exploitation of these raw materials. Morales also introduced various forms of social assistance.
