Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq

An influential, Shiite paramilitary group active during the civil war in Iraq that was triggered by the American invasion in 2003. The Americans called the organisation „the biggest special group” which meant that it received support from Iran. Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq was created in 2004 as a result of a schism in Mahdi Army (led by Muqtada al-Sadr). Between 2006-2011 it claimed responsibility for over 6,000 attacks on the American forces in Iraq. It actively participated in the war against ISIS and became a part of al-Hashd al-Shaab. It is financed and trained by Al-Quds, Iran’s special forces.
