Álvaro Uribe Vélez

Colombian politician and lawyer. He was the President of the country twice in the years 2002-2010. He was the first Head of the State elected for a second term after a change of Constitution, which had not allowed the re-election before. He wanted to introduce an unlimited duration of presidency, but the idea met with the reluctance of society. He supported paramilitary units in the fight against FARC, but they were also responsible for the massacres of civilians, kidnappings and drug trafficking. Over time, paramilitary groups have evolved into criminal groups that slowly take over the former FARC areas.
