Dominika Bychawska-Siniarska

LAWYER

Dominika is a lawyer and social activist.

In 2005, she graduated in law, in 2007 she completed post-graduate studies at the College of Europe in Natolin. In 2007–2009 she worked as a lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights. Since 2008, she has been the director of the Media Freedom Observatory – the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights programme. In 2010–2014, she was a member of the Advisory Panel of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. Since 2016, she has been a Member of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights Management Board and the Secretary of the European Implementation Network Management Board.

She is the author of a weekly column about the European Court of Human Rights judicial decisions in "Prawnik" – a "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna" supplement. She is the author of numerous scientific and popular science articles about freedom of speech. In 2017, she published a book entitled "Protecting the right to freedom of expression under the European Convention on Human Rights" as a part of her work for the European Council.

In 2013, she got an award of Article 54 of the Polish Constitution, awarded by the SDP (Polish Journalists Association) for her contribution to freedom of speech.
