Kharkiv

Saltivka

Saltivka is located on the northeastern outskirts of the city.

Like the Industrial District and Piatykhatky, Russian artillery also heavily shelled this part of Kharkiv.

Meeting a man in the housing estates near the city borders is hard.

But a kilometre or two further, people still live.

It is surrealistic because you can hear missiles flying overhead, explosions, buildings burning, and people can stand and talk as if nothing was happening.

And you don't know when, where, or how close the missile falls.

Suddenly there is a whistling sound, and a massive flower of grey smoke from the explosion grows next to it. If it has fallen far enough, you are alive. If not, you are either dead or injured.

Despite that, people still walk or talk here while standing on the sidewalk. When the missile explodes near them, they start to run, stop a few metres away and continue the conversation as if nothing had happened.

One wonders if it is the lack of fear and imagination or whether humans can get used to all conditions.
