The yellow jersey of the Brazilian national team and boxing at the Olympic Games

The yellow jersey of the Brazilian national soccer team, the symbol of the Canarinhos national team has fallen into disfavour with fans in recent years for political reasons. Previously, with a record five World Cup triumphs, the Brazilian yellow jersey has become a symbol of optimism, happiness and unity among fans of the sport. President Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters, however, use it as a political party sign and attribute in election campaigns. “Football is for everyone, I don’t like that [the jersey] is used by people who promote racism, sexism and discrimination,” says Ademir Takara, a librarian and historian at the São Paulo Football Museum.

Following the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) decision to leave Russian Umar Kremlev as president of the organisation, the future of boxing at the Olympic Games is in doubt. The discipline may not be represented at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The IBA also suspended the Ukrainian Boxing Federation after it sent a letter calling on Kremlev to resign and encouraging IBA members not to vote for him.

In June 2022,the International Boxing Association lost the opportunity to organise the boxing qualifiers and competitions for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The decision by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stems from financial irregularities and suspicions about the fairness of fights at various championships, including the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
