Chiplets, exascale computers and human digital immortality

What technologies will make a breakthrough in 2024? One candidate is chipsets – small, specialised chips that can be connected to perform the functions of regular chips while making computers faster and more efficient. Exascale supercomputers, however, can process data faster, allowing scientists to conduct more sophisticated simulations, such as climate phenomena, nuclear fission or turbulence.

In 2024, generative artificial intelligence and large language models will be embedded in everyday products such as PCs. They will have separate “neural processing units” in their central units. Humane, a Californian start-up, is working on a small AI-based gadget to enable conversations and display data on the user’s hand. AI will also appear in cars, all kinds of robots, smartwatches, and electric bicycles. An Irish start-up will sell a sensor that monitors the frequency and severity of menopausal symptoms, while a South Korean start-up claims to have developed a gadget that will increase the motility of the wearer’s sperm.

Is it possible to achieve immortality by documenting your life and death online? In line with transhumanism, the Lifenaut project allows users to create a digital archive of their thoughts, photos and genetic code for study by future researchers. Nectome, a California-based company, works on techniques to embalm brains for future information recovery.
